There are just a few days left before the 2009 PGA Championship gets here and golf fans are getting antsy waiting for the gates to open for “Glory’s Last Shot.” This has been a great year for PGA golf, and the three previous majors have provided some great times for anyone that had golf tickets. Now the last major of the year is here and you can be sure that there are still plenty of PGA Championship tickets left for the tournament. The PGA Championship takes place August 13-16 at Hazeltine National Club in Chaska, Minn, the first time the event has been staged there since 2002.
Staging the PGA Championship is a huge undertaking and just what it takes to bring the PGA Championship to life is eye-opening. According to the Star Tribune, PGA Championship tickets holders, as well as golfers and others in attendance, will consume 250,000 bottle of water, 200,000 cans of soda, 200,000 cups of beer, 67,820 hamburgers, 139,500 brats and 84,500 bags of chips and pretzels. Setting up the event also took more than 80,000 gallons of paint and 5,000 feet of white picket fence. Its going to be great to see the PGA Championship this year, so if you can make it definitely look at what tickets are about there. Seeing a PGA major live is one of the most memorable events a golf fan can experience, so if you can make it you won’t regret it.
On the web, various writers and sites are looking ahead to some of the story-lines that we will be following at the PGA Championship:
- The Bleacher Report looks at how Tiger Woods is preparing the PGA Championship. In the article author Michael Fitzpatrick points out that Woods is playing in the two golf tournaments before the Championship, the Buick Open and the Bridgestone Invitational, a departure from his usual M.O. This is also the first time that Woods will play in three consecutive tournaments since 2007.
- Over at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Mark Craig take a look at how the PGA Championship has changed.
- And of course, the darling of the British Open, Tom Watson is on the bubble for a spot at the PGA Championship, reports SF Gate.
- Phil Mickelson is still not sure if he will play in the Championship, as he and wife Amy continue to deal with Amy’s cancer.
These are just some of the story-lines we’ll be looking at in the final weeks leading up to the PGA Championship, whose practice rounds start on August 9. This is going to be one heck of a tournament, so don’t miss out on all the fun.
